Zinc Supreme is a unique chelated zinc formula enriched with vitamins B2 and B6, molybdenum, taurine and malic acid to support optimal zinc supplementation. These nutrients act synergistically with zinc to facilitate enzymatic reactions and vital body functions. Zinc and taurine, an amino acid, work together to ensure healthy vision and optimal central nervous system function. Molybdenum decreases zinc excretion and vitamin B6 has been shown to help maintain zinc levels in the body. Each serving of Zinc Supreme provides 30 mg of zinc as well as clinically relevant amounts of these other important nutrients.
Maintaining adequate zinc levels is essential for the proper functioning of every cell in the body. The beneficial effects of zinc are extensive as it is the most abundant intracellular trace mineral in the body and at least 200 zinc-dependent enzymes have been identified. Zinc is essential for the growth and physical development of the body and for the metabolism of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. Most aspects of reproduction, both in men and women, require zinc. This mineral is also vitally important for the immune system. In addition, virtually every enzymatic reaction that takes place in the brain involves zinc, as does the development and proper functioning of the central nervous system. The highest concentrations of zinc are found in the brain, ears and eyes. Some individuals have difficulty absorbing this mineral, but most cases of zinc deficiency are associated with poor diet, chronic stress, vegetarianism or excessive alcohol consumption. Some deficiencies also result from exposure to toxic metals such as cadmium found in cigarettes or excess copper from drinking tap water from copper pipes.
Severe deficiency is associated with skin problems, diarrhea, hair loss, mental disorders and recurrent infections due to impaired immune function. Secondary zinc deficiency can contribute to poor wound healing, type 2 diabetes, prostate enlargement, cataracts, ulcers, food allergies, accumulation of toxic metals in the body, osteoporosis, diminished sense of taste or smell, impaired hearing, blood sugar deficiencies and skin problems such as acne, eczema and psoriasis.
