Vitamin B6 in its most active formHelps in tissue formationPromotes and maintains good healthHelps the body metabolize carbohydrates, fats, and proteinsHelps prevent vitamin B6 deficiencyEach capsule provides 50 mg of vitamin B6Active B6 Pyridoxal is a source of vitamin B6 in the form of pyridoxal-5-phosphate (P5P). This most biologically active form of P5P is used to catalyze over 140 reactions. P5P is an important cofactor in: 1) fatty acid metabolism, including the production of the important omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids; 2) carbohydrate metabolism, including the conversion of glycogen to glucose; and 3) amino acid metabolism, including the synthesis and conversion of the neurotransmitters tryptophan to niacin. Vitamin B6 deficiency reduces niacin production and increases the formation of the metabolite xanthurenic acid, which slows insulin activity. Low vitamin B6 levels can also lead to increased synovial fluid between joints, which can lead to nerve compression.
