Promotes Healthy Lipid Levels Maintain and Support Cardiovascular Health Berberine's effects on lipid metabolism and blood pressure regulation have garnered attention. Research indicates that it may help lower levels of LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and total cholesterol while increasing HDL cholesterol. It may also have positive effects on blood vessel function and inflammation, contributing to improved cardiovascular health. Berberine has the potential to positively impact lipid metabolism. It may reduce levels of triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. Additionally, it can increase the levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, the “good” cholesterol. Zhou Y, et al published a preclinical paper in 2014 exploring the molecular mechanisms underlying the lipid-lowering effects of berberine and its metabolites in human hepatoma cells. The study found that berberine and its metabolites were able to upregulate the expression of the LDL receptor in human hepatoma cells. This upregulation of the LDL receptor led to increased uptake of LDL cholesterol by the cells, which is beneficial for lipid metabolism and overall cardiovascular health.
