DIGESTIVE BENEFITS HSP Complete 50 is formulated with Lactobacillus acidophilus DDS-1, a strain clinically shown to reduce gastrointestinal discomfort during travel and lactose intolerance. In addition, this strain has been shown to regulate bowel habits and stool consistency. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis HN019 was shown to significantly increase bowel movement frequency in patients who had fewer than 3 bowel movements per week. IMMUNE BENEFITS In another trial in adults aged 70 years and older, HN019 was shown to increase helper T cells and natural killer cell activity in patients with a poor immune response. In a clinical trial comparing the effectiveness of various probiotic strains on immune responses, groups given Lactobacillus acidophilus La-14 or Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. Lactis BL-04 showed a significant increase in serum IgG compared to control groups. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. Lactis BL-04 reduced the incidence of respiratory tract infections and viral shedding after being administered during a rhinovirus infection and supplemented with the probiotic strain for an additional 28 days. In another double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with 465 healthy adults, Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. Lactis BL-04 (at a dose of 2 billion CFU) was more effective than placebo and a multi-strain probiotic (19% reduction vs. 27% reduction) in reducing the incidence of respiratory tract infections and improving immunity. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in 32 overweight and obese women, our HSP strains were shown to be significantly correlated with healthy BMI, weight, fat mass, lean mass, taper index, protein intake, monounsaturated fat intake, glycated hemoglobin, TNF-α, and IL6/IL10. The HSP bifidobacteria strains also demonstrated specific cholesterol-absorbing properties, resulting in lower serum total cholesterol and LDL-C.
